8 Signs You Need Replacement Vinyl Windows

It isn’t always easy to tell when it is time for replacement vinyl windows. In fact, because they are such a large investment, many homeowners put off getting new windows as long as possible. Instead, they deal with the minor damages or inconveniences of old windows until they have absolutely no choice but to replace them. Unfortunately, this method costs more in the long run. It is better to pay closer attention to your windows and know exactly when the right time is to get them replaced. A few signs to watch for include:

1. Shattered Glass
This is obvious. If the glass is broken, then you want to have it replaced as quickly as possible. In some cases, you can simply call for a replacement window pane. However, if the windows are outdated, you might not be able to find the right fit and replacement vinyl windows would be a better option.

2. Warped or Broken Frames
Sometimes frames need only minor repairs, like weather stripping or replacement hardware. In these cases, you don’t need to worry about getting replacement windows right away. Replacement is preferred for more extensive damage like rot, warping, and cracks. Even if the windows are operable, the damaged frames will cause you more problems.

3. Water Leaks
Water is particularly dangerous when it comes to windows. The leaks can get between the walls and lead to mold, warping, and more extensive damage. So if you have noticed water collecting inside your home, check to make sure it isn’t coming through the windows.

4. Icing and Condensation
Fog or ice should not collect between the panes of glass on your window. If it does that means a seal has broken and the window is compromised. It is no longer as energy efficient, and moisture is getting inside the panes and windows.

5. Heat Transfer
Have you ever stood close to a window, or put your finger in the glass, and noticed it was excessively hot or cold? This is never a good sign. It means your windows are not properly insulated. Modern manufacturers make replacement vinyl windows to meet the most rigorous standards. The quality vinyl frames and treated glass panes prevent heat transfer better than ever before.

6. Excessive Heating and Cooling Costs
In line with heat transfer, you might notice your energy usage creeping up year after year. This could mean your windows are not performing as well as they should. This leads to more expensive heating and cooling bills—an unnecessary expense you can correct with replacement vinyl windows.

7. Difficult Operation
You shouldn’t have to muscle your windows open or rig them to keep them closed and locked. Inoperable windows are not just inconvenient, but they are also a safety hazard. Imagine what an inoperable window would mean in an emergency. The longer you wait to get these windows replaced the worse the problem will get.

8. Just Unhappy with Your Current Windows
Window replacement doesn’t always stem from necessity. Sometimes you need a change and one of the best ways to give your home that much-needed facelift is with replacement vinyl windows. Even more, if you are looking to sell your home, new windows will give you one of the biggest returns on your investment.
